Alexander Stephens, whose full name is Alexander Hamilton Stephens, was not only the 58th governor of Georgia but was also the Vide President of the Confederate States of America. He was born on February 11th in 1812, and died at age 71 on March 4th of 1883. Alexander Stephens was in office as Vice President of the Confederate States of America from February 11th of 1861 to May 11th of 1865. His office term for being the 58th governor of Georgia was from November 4th of 1882 until his death in 1883. He was born, raised, and died in Georgia.

Alexander Stephens was able to get his education with the help of multiple benefactors and had a career as a lawyer. However, that was not what he was known for. His career as a lawyer was very impressive and soon he was elected as a United States representative, better known as a Whig. This took place after the resignation of Mark A. Cooper which left a vacancy that Alexander Stephens was able to fill.

Alexander Stephens ended up rising to be one of the individuals who were leading in the Southern Whigs of the house. He was someone who was against the Wilmot Proviso and someone who was for the annexation of Texas during 1845. He had a great deal to do with southern areas being able to hold their ground against northerners in a fight for slavery and to preserve their way of life. While many people may take this as having been a part of the wrong side, his accomplishments where very impressive as was the effect that he was known to have. He wanted people to be able to live in the manner that they had for a very long time.
