Coin collecting is a fun and entertaining hobby that can be enjoyed by all ages, young and old. Many families collect coins together and it is a hobby that can be shared by young people that they can enjoy as they grow up and eventually share with families of their own.
A coin collector that is a Completist is a person that prefers to collect coins from a historic period, or nation or era. On the other hand, you can be a Completist and collect only medals or tokens, or coins that feature errors.
A Completist is a coin collector that wants every coin within a certain set or range. For example if you want to collect a coin from every era or coin ever minted by the United States. Or, if you want to collect, every coin minted in a certain year around the world, like 1980.
When you choose to collect coins, if you choose to be a Completist it can be very expensive, depending on the area that you choose to collect coins. For that reason, many people that are Completist coin collectors choose a narrow area for their specialty, because it can be not only expensive but difficult to find some coins if you chose an area that is especially wide.
Most collectors recognize this and so they focus on a small area or region of collection, and have a lot of fun collecting within that area. Coin collecting can become a very competitive activity, and as a person becomes more of a serious coin collector then it can become an issue that they begin to select coins that are good financial investments also.
For this reason, many coin collectors begin to view their collections not just as a hobby but also as a sport, and as an investment area. Every collector is different, and it depends what interests a person as to what they collect.
