Coming (Again!) to the Port of Long Beach
February 3rd through February 6th:
$20 Million in Treasure Recovered from the 1857 Shipwreck
of the S.S. Central America "The Ship of Gold"
Sponsored by Monaco Rare Coins
In honor of the 10-year anniversary of the S.S. Central America treasure coming to market, Monaco Rare Coins has generously brought back the incomparable exhibit which captivated and enthralled thousands of collectors and history buffs a decade ago all across North America – the "Ship of Gold" experience.
Included in the impressive display will be at least three of the huge California Gold Rush unparted gold bricks and ingots, which will include the colossal 933 ounce "Eureka Bar" created by Kellogg & Company, which sold for $8,000,000 in 2002. Other items in the exhibit include territorial gold coins . . . gold dust and nuggets . . . and pristine $20 gold coins from the San Francisco Mint, as beautiful and perfect as the day they were minted, along with the "fish tank" full of $20 gold coins stacked just like they were the day the left the mint in 1857 – all recovered more than 8,000 feet beneath the sea off the coast of the Carolinas in the 1980s by a team of scientists, engineers and salvage experts.
This is the culmination of months of work to coordinate the display with collectors who privately own and now have generously loaned many of the items for the exhibit, according to Adam Crum, Monaco Vice President.
The story of the treasure, which can be viewed at http://www.shipofgoldinfo.com/, and its recovery have been documented in Gary Kinder's best-selling book, Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea, and in the award-winning, hour-long History Channel "History's Mysteries" program, The Ship of Gold, which was sponsored for years by Monaco Rare Coins.
This will likely be your last chance to see this fabulous exhibit – to marvel at these exceptional Gold Rush historical artifacts – and at the same time, to meet with shipwreck treasure experts Adam Crum of Monaco Rare Coins and Bob Evans, the Chief Scientist of the "Ship of Gold" treasure recovery and conservation efforts.
A wide range of S.S. Central America treasure items – from bricks and ingots, to coins, gold dust and nuggets – will be available for sale at the Monaco Rare Coins "Ship of Gold" exhibit.
